First, what happens after you clear NDA?

Clearing the NDA exam does not make you an officer right away. First, you go through training:

1. 3 years at the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla — common training for all three wings, plus a degree.

2. 1 year at your service academy:

• Army → Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun

• Navy → Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala

• Air Force → Air Force Academy (AFA), Hyderabad

After this 4-year journey, you become a commissioned officer.

What post do you get after NDA?

When you pass out and join your force, you become an officer at the starting officer rank of each force:

From there, you get promoted step by step (for example, in the Army: Lieutenant → Captain → Major → Lieutenant Colonel, and higher). Promotions bring more responsibility and more pay.

Salary after NDA (simple explanation)

While you are training as a cadet, you get a fixed monthly stipend (a training allowance). Once you become a commissioned officer, your salary is set by the government pay rules (7th Pay Commission), starting in the officer pay range and growing with each promotion. On top of the basic pay, officers also receive many allowances, such as:

• Dearness Allowance (DA)

• Military Service Pay (MSP)
